Yes, it is.

Find out if there is still time to register. The Elections Commission will tell you. The candidates who are running for office can also tell you. There may also be some signs around the city that tell the last day to register for an election.

These are 4 of the ways you can register:

1. Go in person to the Elections Commission office in City Hall.

It is on the 1st floor, next to the elevator. Mon. - Fri., 8:30 - 4:30.

Fill out a registration card form. Write your name, address, birthday, and your driver's license or the last 4 numbers on your Social Security card. Check the political party you want, or check “Unenrolled.” Unenrolled means that you do not want to be with any political party.

You will be asked to swear that:

  1. You are a U.S. citizen.
  2. You live in Massachusetts.
  3. You are 18 years or older (or you will be 18 by election day).

If you are a new citizen, you do not need to show your Certificate. You register like everyone else.

The Elections Commission will tell you which polling place to go to vote. Your name will be on the voting list only at that polling place.

2. Go in person to any high school in Brockton or to Massasoit Community College.

In a few weeks, the Elections Commission will mail a card to you. The card will tell you where to go to vote. That will be your polling place.

3. Fill out a registration card form if you get one at a meeting or at a voter registration event. You or someone else can mail the card to the Elections Commission.

In a few weeks, the Elections Commission will mail a card to you. The card will tell you where to go to vote. That will be your polling place.

4. Go in person to an elections office in any city or town in Massachusetts.
(Maybe you are away visiting someone in another town on the last day of registration.)

Brockton's Accu-Vote Voting Machines are Ballot Boxes

All 28 polling places in Brockton have an Accu-Vote voting machine. These voting machines are ballot boxes.

“Accu” is short for “Accurate.” It is the same as ‘100% correct.’ The Accu-Vote ballot boxes give the city a paper record AND an electronic record of all the votes all day at all 28 polling places.

First, a voter votes on a paper ballot. Then the voter slides his or her ballot into the Accu-Vote machine. The machine immediately counts all the votes on the voter's ballot and keeps the ballot safely in the box.

When the polls close at 8:00PM, the Accu-Vote machine prints out a list of all of the votes for all of the candidates. All votes for all elections are always all correct.
